This exhibition prepared from the private collection of Patrik Šimon presents a representative look at the art work of Josef Bergler and his time period. Graphic art of the early 19th century is continually surprising due to its rich thematic material, extending from biblical illustrations to classical mythology up to New Year’s cards and caricatures. The graphic art work in this sphere was deeply influenced by the figure of Josef Bergler Jr. (1753–1829), the first director of the Prague Academy of Art from the year 1800. Bergler was born in Salzburg, worked out of Passau and Italy and finally became a recognised authority on art in Prague. The exhibition displays the varied styles of the drawing art of Josef Bergler in both direct and indirect feedback with graphic art.
