28 May – 30 August 2009
Olomouc Archdiocesan Museum | Picture Gallery
The exhibition devoted to the life and work of one of the foremost Olomouc Baroque sculptors, together with a selection of works made by his disciples, is another monographic exhibition organized by the Olomouc Archdiocesan Museum focused on the most prominent representatives of old art in Moravia. Ondřej Zahner, a Frankish sculptor by origin, who spent most of his life in Olomouc, was an outstanding figure, whose supreme works are comparable to those of the best Czech Baroque sculptors. Zahner’s work includes, apart from the well-known set of sculptural works for the Holy Trinity Column (listed by UNESCO), more than a hundred sculptures, sculptural groups and altars. The presented collection of mostly minor sculptural works is intended to be a tribute to this outstanding artist, whose 300th anniversary of birth will coincide with the term of the exhibition.
